Work Life from 1979 to 1996

From 1979 through to 1996 I worked for the British Rail Scottish Region Signalling Electronics Section.

During the 80's and 90's we designed a number electronic systems that were used throughout the Scottish Region (ScR). The two main systems that we produced were the ScR TDM (also known as a DAM) and the ScR Train Describer.

Each of these systems also led us into designing bespoke interfaces or Protocol converters to other, and sometimes rather ageing systems. Spread over the following pages are details of each of our designs including the PCB artworks, manuals, photos etc.

Work Life from 2000 to 2015

All changed after privitisation of British Rail, we could no longer build our own systems so the nature of our work focused on Specification, Factory Acceptance Testing and Final Testing.

A couple of job changes from 1996 and three of the BR Signalling Electronics Section found ourselves working for First Engineering and along with a new fourth member of the team we developed a small niche (alongside our core duties) in building Control and Indication Panels along with a few very simple circuit boards.. the circuit boards became the most popular boards we ever made!
